Why Roof Replacements Are More Common Than You Might Think

There are many structural components that make up a house, from your foundation to your ceiling but perhaps none are as hardworking as your roof. Not only does it shelter you from a lot of wind, rain, hail, sunshine, dust, and a whole host of animals looking for a warm space to sleep, but it also helps with insulation and regulating your home's temperature. With that in mind, it should come as no surprise that a roof replacement is more common than a lot of other renovations. Here are a few reasons why you might consider a roof replacement in the near future.

Aged Out

Unlike most other parts of your home or building, your roof generally will have an expiry date. It will not last indefinitely because of the myriad of reasons listed above that age it far faster than most parts of your home. For metal roofs, this can be well over one hundred years, but for most people with tiled and shingled roofs, this is closer to fifteen to twenty-five years. If your home hasn't had major roof repairs or maintenance in that time period and you are starting to reach that upper limit, it may be time for a full roof replacement.

Major Weather Event

A lot of areas in America undergo quite traumatic weather events on a fairly regular basis. Strong winds, tornadoes, hurricanes, cyclones, flash flooding, searing heat, blizzards, and so on, are all common occurrences in parts of the country, and they all affect your roof much more dramatically than other parts of your home. If you have had a rough couple of weather events in the last couple of years and haven't had your home inspected by a professional roofer at any stage then you should ensure you get this done sooner rather than later.

Upgraded Building Materials

One reason that many people voluntarily get roof replacements is simply due to the fact that modern roofing material is so much more superior to previous iterations. It has better thermal capacity, which makes it ideal for insulation, and it also survives better, keeping its original color and sheen for longer. If you want a makeover to ensure your home stays up to date with the times, or if you are thinking of putting it up on the market, then a roof replacement should be one of your first renovation projects that you organize.
