You can call a roofing company at any time of year, and they should send someone out to take care of your issues. Yes, even in the middle of the winter when the snow is flying, they can find a way to repair a roof, if needed. That does not mean, however, that you should not try to plan your roof repairs for the ideal season. And that ideal season is autumn! Here are a few reasons why fall is the best time to have those roof repairs made.
1. Your roof will be in good shape headed into winter.
Fall is the best time for roof repairs because winter is the season that is hardest on your roof. The freeze-thaw cycles, ice formations, and the weight of snow can turn a peeling shingle into a missing shingle or cause leaks in places where your flashing might be rusted or loose. By having these small issues repaired in the fall, you can prevent bigger roofing problems in the winter months. Avoiding these bigger roofing issues will save you money; it's easier to repair a peeling shingle than water damage caused by a missing shingle!
2. Roofers can work well in the cool weather.
In fall, temperatures usually drop, and the weather becomes much milder. This makes it easier for roofers to work effectively and quickly. They won't need to take as many breaks to cool off, and they may get done with your roof repairs a bit sooner. It's nice to only have to plan for the roofers to be there for one day, not two — or for a few hours, and not all day.
3. Shingles are easy to work with in the cooler weather.
If your roofer needs to replace some of your shingles, fall is the perfect time to do it. In the hot summer, shingles can get too floppy, which makes it harder to secure them perfectly. In the winter, they can be brittle and prone to cracking. In the fall, the shingle texture is just right.
4. You'll save on heating.
As soon as it gets a bit colder outside, you'll be turning on the heat. If you have your roof repaired before you turn the heat on, it will lose less heat, and your energy bills will stay lower. It's always good for the planet and for your wallet to conserve energy in any way you can.
Autumn is the season for roof repairs, so if your roof has any sort of damage, contact your roofing company soon.
